Dr. Lisa Walters

For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a veterinarian. I have worked in the veterinary field since high school, first as a kennel assistant in Canton and then as a veterinary assistant in Westland. I graduated from MSU with a BS in Veterinary Science in 1999 and a DVM in 2001. Following graduation, I started at Southgate Animal Hospital and have been there for almost 20 years.

My favorite thing about veterinary medicine is the pets and the variety. I never know what to expect when I walk into an exam room, so I find I get to constantly adapt to the needs of the situation. My passion is exotics, especially the small mammals.
I tell people I have one and a half dogs. Munchausen is a highly energetic, but easily scared 5 year old beagle and Yukie, my parent’s 10 year old yorkie with a big dog attitude. Unfortunately, I do not have any other pets due to allergies within the family, but I truly miss my guinea pigs and rabbits.

I have been married to my husband, Shawn for 20 years and we have three children- Joshua, Nathan, and Molly.
Out of work, I enjoy biking and running with my run buddy, Munchausen. We also love to go camp as a family and are looking forward to resuming our weekend trips post-pandemic.
